Branches of MPEI University
The branches of the largest Russian university were established on the basis of decision of the Russian Government to ensure the engineering and
research specialists for the different regions and for the initiation the provincial universities. Exactly by this way the MPEI branches in Cheboksary and Kazan were
developed from which their own prestigious universities for Chuvashia ana Tatarstan were arisen. At present, MPEI has the branches in the towns of Smolensk, Volzhskiy,
Konakovo and a rather unusual branch in Ulaanbaatar in the form of Russian-Mongol Institute.
 MPEI Branch in Smolensk was created in 1961 and beginning from 1966 it became the main educational institution for training the engineering specialists for
this region of Russia. During this period more than 10.000 engineers were trained in MPEI Smolensk Branch/ MPEI Smolensk Branch graduates work at present practically at
all industrial enterprises, design and research organizations of Smolensk region. Many of them are the leaders of the industrial enterprises, the joint-stock companies, the banks.
Among Smolensk Branch graduates there are four Dr. Sci., and about 100 Ph.D.
At present, MPEI Smolensk Branch is the largest in this region state educational complex. It has three faculties: the Faculty of Computer Technologies and Electronics,
the Faculty of Power and Electrical Engineering, and the Faculty of Economics and Management. It performs the training of Bachelors on seven directions, and Certified
Engineers on 14 specialties and eight specializations. The students can get the second economical or military education.
Totally more than 2.000 students are trained in MPEI Smolensk Branch including the students from ten foreign states. At the twenty departments the qualified staff of
professors and teacher work including 14 Dr. Sci. and 125 Ph.D.
 MPEI Branch in Volzhskiy performs the training of Bachelors on the direction "Thermal Power Engineering". The training direction is
four years (full-day system) or 4,5 years (combined system). The training of Engineers is performed on the following specialties:

Thermal Power Plants

Water and Fuel Technologies on the Thermal and Nuclear Power Plants

Industrial Heat Engineering

Power Supply of Enterprises

Automation of Technological Processes and Manufactures.
The Center of Additional Training and Retraining of specialists in MPEI Volzhskiy Branch was accredited for fulfillment the work
in the following programs of additional education:
