Humanitarian-Applied Institute (HAI)

General information about HAI

Humanitarian-Applied Institute (HAI) was created as a structural MPEI sub-division in 1995 with the main aim to give MPEI students the opportunity on the payment basis to get the high-quality higher education (first and second) on non-profile for MPEI directions. In HAI both the main MPEI teachers work (on the fundamental disciplines) and the involved external specialists on the specific disciplines. HAI was officially accredited and its graduates have got the state diplomas of MPEI University. At present HAI includes two faculties (Economics and Management; Design and Fashion), three specific departments, eight specialties for training the certified specialists, five specializations, three specialties of the second higher education, about 960 students. The total staff of HAI professors and teachers includes 14 Dr. Sci. and 32 Ph.D.

Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM)

Educational process on this faculty can be presented by the following levels: pre-university training, higher professional education, after-university training (second higher professional education), retraining and a wide spectrum of additional educational programs.

Complete cycle of continuous education is performed on six specialties:

• Finance and Credit;

• Mathematical Methods in Economics;

• Applied Informatics in Economics;

• Applied Informartics in Management;

• Business Accounting, Analysis and Audit;

• State and Municipal Management:
  specialization: Tourist and Hotel Business

Second higher education (duration of 3 years) on specialties:

• Finance and Credit;

• Business Accounting, Analysis and Audit;

• Applied Informatics in Economics.

All HAI specialties have been licensed and accredited. This HAI Faculty prepared about 2.000 specialists.

The students have a practice in prestigious banks, companies, firms and organizations, in the bodies of local officials of Moscow and the Moscow region.

The additional forms of education are widely represented: professional retraining on the program "Fundamentals of Market Economy" and authorized lecture course of Microsoft IT Academy, Oracle Academy, optional programs "1Ñ: Accounting 8" etc.

FEM students have the opportunity to get the special certificates confirming the knowledge of information packets, for example, "Consultant +", "1Ñ: Accounting 8" etc., which are the one of the qualification index of the graduate.

FEM ensure the high quality education. The leading Russian and foreign IT companies are taking part in the educational process, for example, "INFORMICA", representative of ORACLE in Russia, Company FORS – Center of !C development etc. Both traditional methods of education and the active ones (the business and role games, the electronic learning systems, the imitation models, the educational projects, the case analysis, the discussions etc.) are used in the educational process. Besides the usual classes, education is performed in computer centers, which are equipped by the modern facilities and software packages, in the language laboratory, the multi-media projectors are widely used as well as video and photo equipment. FEM holds the All-Russia student competitions on the economic and IT disciplines. All this guarantees to FEM students the possibility to form the individual educational path for future professional, carrier and personal growth.

Faculty of Design and Fashion (FDF)

Faculty of Design and Fashion offers to the talented youth to get the deep professional education of the following specialties:

• Design (a design of industrial design of small forms, a graphical design, the design of clothes);

• Interior Arts (an artistic design on the interiors).

The system and the principles of the art discipline blocks create the combined opportunity to solve the problem of training of the young designer. The range of the project tasks is extremely wide and various, from children toys to the urban electrical transport in the industrial design, and from urban apartment to the office of large company or industry in artistic design of interior specialization. The project design in the graphical design and in clothes design also give the possibility during the educational process to solve the various real project tasks.

Great attention is attracted to the methodical support of the educational process. Team of FDF authors prepared the textbook complex "Design – Education" which had got the prize at MPEI competition and was awarded by Victory Award at the All-Russia Exhibition "Design-2004" at the section Design-Pedagogic of higher education.

FDF possesses well-equipped art workshops, the modern studio of computer designing, photo-lab, sewing workshop.

FDF students are the permanent participators of the conferences and competitions of various levels:

• International Stroganov festival of designers of the CIS States – former USSR republics;

• Annual competition of designers "Mechanical Orange";

• Moscow Forum "Industrial Design";

• "Russian Silhouette";

• "Prospects" and many others.

In 2006 the jury of All-Russia competition "The Best Work in the Field of Design" conferred on the National Award "VICTORY" for the collection of the FDF students’ works in the field of the clothes in the section Higher Education. High evaluation (First Award) of the FDF student works was achieved by the International Exhibition "TEXTILEXPO-2009".

FDF is the permanent participator of the All-Russia scientific-practical conference "Modern Technologies in Design Education", where the FDF Design Department presents its theoretical results as well as participates in the competition of Design Universities of Russia having got often the main prizes.

On the basis of the international agreements, the graduate students have the possibility to pass through the training in Florence Academy of Design and get the second diploma from it.
