Institute of Linguistic (IL)

General information about IL

Institute of Linguistic was created as a structural MPEI sub-division in 2000 on the basis of the conception of commercial division creation on the non-profile directions. The main aim of IL establishing is to give the students the possibility high-quality higher education on the payment base in the field of humanitarian and non-profile specialties as well as to give the students of technical MPEI institutes the possibility to get the second higher education simultaneously with the engineering education on the payment base.

The main MPEI staff of professors and teachers (on the fundamental disciplines) works at IL together with the involved teachers on the specific disciplines. IL was officially accredited and issues the state diplomas of MPEI University. At present, IL includes the specific department "Applied Linguistic and Translation-Keeping", the preliminary division, English College, PR Center. The teaching staff includes more than 60 teachers.

Besides with the main education giving to IL students the possession to use three languages, IL offers the second higher education with duration of three years. IL fulfils the professional retraining on the program "Interpreter in the field of professional communications" for the trainees having the higher education.

IL trains on the following specialties:

• Translation and Translation-Keeping (qualification - linguist, interpreter)

  This specialty gives the deep theoretical and practical training on the several foreign languages. Education program includes the possession of 2-3 foreign languages as well as the relevant problems of inter-cultural communications, the language of mass-media, the literature of countries of studied language, the business language protocol, the etiquette, performing the business negotiations, theoretical and practical aspects of two-side written and oral translation etc.

• Theoretical and Applied Linguistic (qualification - linguist)

  This specialty gives the fundamental training on the modern world level in the field of the theoretical, applied and mathematical linguistic, the psycho- and social-linguistic, science of language and translation-keeping, and the computer translation as well. Educational program includes the learning of the modern humanitarian-applied disciplines, such as the science of language, the psycho-linguistics, the social-linguistic, the computer linguistic, the computer translation, the automated processing of the natural language and speech and so on. The bases of mathematics, the mathematical logic, the philosophy of mathematics are included in the educational program as well as learning of two foreign language which corresponds to the full program of the standard linguistic universities.

• Public Relations (PR) (qualification – PR specialist)

  The future activity of PR specialist is directed to creation and support of fruitful, mutually profitable relations between the organization, partners, clients and mass-media means. Educational program includes the training of public relations in the financial area, the personal and corporative image, consulting of VIP, the electoral technologies, the advertisement psychology, image and management, technologies for negotiation, presentation, meeting, interview fulfillment. The students get the serious and deep training on two foreign languages.
