Fifteen years ago NRU MPEI (being one of the few Russian universities) launched the program of education for foreign students in English medium on the only specialty – Computer Engineering. NRU MPEI had a long preparation period, selected the leading professors fluently speaking English, prepared the educational materials in English. Now NRU MPEI accepts annually one full group of the foreign students fluently speaking English for this educational program. All classes here are provided in English, therefore, the students need not the preliminary training in Russian language, i.e. the educational period is one year less. Of course, the annual tuition fee for this program is more but the classes are in the only small group, therefore, the contacts between the student and professor are much closer and this is good for the training.

General Information

Training of the foreign students in NRU MPEI fully in English Medium in the field of Computer Engineering started in 1995. First 11 foreign students did this course in 1999.

The main advantage of studying in English here in comparison with studying in the West is that it is essentially cheaper. The tuition fee in the US and Europe is about 6 times as much and transportation and living costs are approximately 5-10 times as much. But the level of education is similar to the best technical universities in the United States and Europe. It is clear from the fact that specialists who have graduated from MPEI, are readily invited by US, UK, Australian companies and universities for a job and for further education.

The main advantages of studying in English in comparison with studying in Russian include:

  • duration of course in English is 1 year less (one year is necessary to learn Russian),
  • the most important information in the field of Computer Engineering all over the world is available in English,
  • the closest contacts between students and teachers.

Russian Language is not necessary in order to be a student at NRU MPEI at this specialty only because all teaching is carried out in English and all necessary materials are given to students in English forever and free of charge. Russian language is learned mainly to help students in their everyday life.

To get a Dipl. Engineer degree or a Master of Science degree in the field of Computer Engineering (exact title of Engineer and Master courses specialty at NRU MPEI is "Informatics and Computer Engineering"), a student having Bachelor's degree must study 4 semesters and pass exams or/and get credits by disciplines according to special program taking into account his wishes and to defend a Master thesis. Students take courses in areas such as "Graphic and Text processing", "Neural Networks", "LabView in Windows NT" etc. Students also have the opportunity to take additional courses according to their interests. Moscow is a great scientific center therefore making it easy to find a good instructor in any subject of modern science.

Admission

Admission is organized without entrance examination on the basis of tests and conversations. Russian Language is not necessary. Following documents are necessary:

  • For the first semester of Bachelor course: the legalized certificate from full secondary school, the medical certificate, the filled application form, the copy of national passport.
  • For 2-8 semester of Bachelor course: the legalized certificate from full secondary school etc. and an official document with list of disciplines studied. The officials of NRU MPEI examine these documents and decide whether the disciplines studied by the student are enough to prolong education in NRU MPEI or if some additional areas need to be studied in greater detail.
  • For Dipl. Engineer and Master Science courses: all documents mentioned above plus legalized diploma of Bachelor of Science.
