3rd International Scientific Symposium SPITSE 2016 was held from 20 June to 01 July at the National Research University "Moscow Power Engineering Institute" as a part of the International Academic Forum AMO-SPITSE-NESEFF. Forum included the XXI AMO – Association of International Offices of Higher Education Institutions conference, the 3rd International Scientific Symposium SPITSE 2016 and the conference of the International Partner Network of Universities NESEFF.

The project SPITSE is the trilateral strategic partnership of engineering science departments of Ilmenau University of Technology (Germany), St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University "LETI" (Russia), and the National Research University "Moscow Power Engineering Institute" (Russia) for joint education and research.

The Symposium combines a Scientific Conference and a Summer School for young researchers.

The goal of cooperation is the joint research and implementation of multidisciplinary projects in the field of theoretical electrical engineering, microelectronics and power engineering, as well as the organization of academic exchanges of staff and students. The event is supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

The symposium took place at MPEI at two sites – in Moscow and Smolensk branch of MPEI.

Welcoming addresses at the forum opening in Moscow and Smolensk were made by – Rector of MPEI, Professor Nikolay D. Rogalev, Head of the Science Department of the German Embassy Mr. Michael Dobis, President of Siemens Russia and Central Asia, Vice-President of “Siemens AG” Dr. Dietrich Moeller, Director of Thuringian Centre of Innovation in Mobility, Professor TU Ilmenau, SPITSE Chairman Matthias A. In the framework of the conference were presented more than 20 of oral and poster reports that cover a wide range of topics:

  • Novel technologies for RF, microwave, and optical sensors and devices;
  • Antennas for RF and microwave sensing;
  • Energy efficient frontends, wireless power transfer;
  • Smart sensors, sensor signal acquisition, HW/SW co-design;
  • Biomedical diagnostics;
  • Wireless devices and strategies for intelligent traffic systems (ITS);
  • Nonlinear dynamic system modeling, analog and digital signal processing, dirty RF;
  • Wireless sensor networks, network security;
  • Data fusion and data mining;
  • Embedded software engineering.

Presented papers have caused active discussion among participants and wishes of further cooperation.

Visiting scientific and educational laboratories of the MPEI for SPITSE symposium participants were organized in Moscow and Smolensk.

The cultural program included a visit to the museum complex Borodino and a sightseeing tour of Smolensk. Also, symposium participants laid flowers at the memorial dedicated to the heroism of MPEI students in the Great Patriotic War in the village Prudky.
