Summer Meeting of the International Thematic Group on Energy of the BRICS Network University

14 June, 2023 the Summer Meeting of the International Thematic Group on Energy of the BRICS Networking University (BRICS NU) was held. There was a discussion on how to implement the project Designing a BRICS model for the clean energy transition, dedicated to the specifics of the energy transition to clean energy in the BRICS countries. Dawid Serfontein, the coordinator of the BRICS NU from the Northwestern University of South Africa, proposed the project.

Prof. Serfontein gave a talk about technical and economic analysis of the state and prospects of South Africa's energy sector. He put forward a question related to conducting a comparative review of the energy sector of each several the BRICS countries. However, the participants decided to concentrate their efforts on South Africa as the BRICS chairmanship. This year the work plan of the thematic group includes a discussion of technologies that contribute to solving the problems of South Africa's energy sector. This discussion can take the form of review papers prepared by Ph.D.-students from the partner universities of each BRICS country. A Ph.D. conference on this topic should be held in October-November 2023.

Finally, participants discussed the forthcoming annual conference of the BRICS NU held on July 5-6, 2023 in a remote format at the Northwestern University in South Africa. The report of the International Thematic Group on Energy written will be presented at the conference by Prof. Serfontein, BRICS NU coordinator.
