Summer School for 10th graders

Since 23.05.2016 to 11.06.2016 on the base of National Research University "Moscow Power Engineering Institute" there took place the classes for the 10th graders within the Summer School on physics, chemical and mathematical that was organized for them.

90 children from schools in 5 regions of Russia have taken part in the events: lycee No. 18 in Novocheboksarsk, Savvinskaya school of Odintsovo District in the Moscow region, preparatory school No. 1522 in Moscow, School No. 64 in Yekaterinburg and School named after Hero of the Russian Federation I. Sarychev in Korablino of the Ryazan region.

There were 3 shifts, each shift lasted for one week.

During the first week 10th graders from Chuvashia had the intensive course on solving the Academic Competition problems on physics, chemistry and mathematics. This course included both practical training and workshops on the main subjects of these themes of the school course.

The lycee No. 1502 under MPEI has hospitably swung open the doors for the school children of Novocheboksarsk, where there were organized 2 practical exercise lessons: on chemistry and robototronics.

During the first practical exercise lesson young researchers have independently performed the necessary experiments and calculations, and they also have performed temperature dependences of chemical reaction based on digital laboratory "Archimedes". Additionally professors of the lycee have shown several entertaining chemical experiments.

Simultaneously in the Experimentarium laboratory of lycee No. 1502 under MPEI the engineers have shown the state of the art equipment for 2D and 3D - modeling and prototyping whereby children can perform the project works on mechatronics and robototronics, and also they can be freely engaged in scientific and technical creativity.

Head of Department of International Relations A. Tarasov made a speech in the conference zone of MPEI scientific and technical library with the presentation about a role of our University in the world educational community. There were presented different types of joint students' educational programs with foreign Universities partners and there was shown a place of MPEI in various training programs in educational systems of Europe and Asia.

During the second and the third weeks of Summer School guests from Yekaterinburg, Moscow, the Moscow region and the Ryazan region performed individual research projects and laboratory works on the base of Physics Department named after V. Fabrikant. School children presented their calculations and results of experiments in MathCAD - a numerical modeling program.

In study-free time during all Summer School children have visited laboratories of Departments of 6 MPEI Institutes: Dept. of Metal Technology (Institute of Power Machinery and Mechanics), Dept. of High Voltage Engineering and Electrical Physics (Institute of Electrical Power Engineering), Dept. of Control and Informatics (Institute of Automatics and Computer Engineering), Dept. of Physics (Institute of Radio Engineering and Electronics), Dept. of Chemistry and Electric-Chemical Energetic (Institute of Power Engineering Efficiency Problems), Dept. of Electronics and Nanoelectronics (Institute of Radio Engineering and Electronics), Dept. of Electrical Complexes of Self-Contained Objects and Electrical Transport (Institute of Electrical Engineering). During familiarization tours guests could see firsthand various methods of welding, severance and metal working, cumulonimbus forming process, operation of automatic program control classifiers, laser show, process of electricity production from the air hydrogen, a surface of a compact disk under the nano microscope, the acting model of the automobile engine and many other things. For school children there were organized the lectures concerning the preparation for the "Hope of Power Engineering" Academic Competition. During the weekend MPEI students and staff have prepared the small cultural program and the excursion through Moscow.

After all 3 shifts children who were working on their projects have protected them and they have received certificates on the graduation from the Summer School.
