The Department was founded in 1961

Summary

Department of computing machines, systems and networks was established in 2016 by joining of two departments: department of electrical physics (est. 1961) and department of computing machines, systems and networks (est. 1969). The joint department collects best practices of the hardware and software development teaching, long-lasting scientific collaborations and high-qualified staff. The scope of research and teaching activities includes issues on computer networks, high performance computing, signal processing, web applications development, databases and data mining, electromagnetic compatibility and cybersecurity.

Research areas

  • computer networks design and optimization
  • multidimensional digital signal processing
  • data mining
  • cybersecurity and blockchain
  • intellectual systems for microwave devices design

Recent projects

  • R&D work at special, miniature microwave antennas (3 contracts within last 3 years)
  • Convolutional neural network on irregular meshes
  • Development of the high-stability microwave generators
  • Development of the intellectual system of the consumer recognition based on instant current analysis
  • Data-mining system for the power plant equipment
  • Development of the specialized multi-interface DLL
  • Optimization of the wireless network

Features

During the studies we combine theoretical and applied courses on wide spectrum of the hardware and software development technologies. The graduates gain general knowledge and practical skills in different areas, majoring on the one selected topic. This allows to combine width and depth of the educational program making it more individual and underlining the most important and useful subjects. We offer large number of non-obligatory courses, supplementary extra courses and short term programs. Our department invites researchers and lecturers from the leading IT companies and research centers for author courses and master classes.

Unique equipment

Department is equipped with modern computers, networking utilities, professional software (including Mathsoft Matlab, Wolfram Mathematica, Cadence OrCAD, Security Code SecretNetStudio). We introduce contemporary microprocessors, controllers and PLMs (Intel, ARM, Xilinx, Elbrus). Laboratories are equipped with modern digital generators, oscilloscopes, multi-meters) providing individual fully equipped workplaces for students. We are widely implementing cloud computing technologies in our educational process.
