Business meeting with the Minister of Education and Training of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam

On the 30th of June, 2017 a business meeting between MPEI Rector Nikolay Rogalev and the Minister of Education and Training of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (SRV), MPEI Honorary Doctor Phung Xuan Nha took place.

The participants of the meeting were:

• Representative of Department of the International Cooperation of the Ministry of Education and Training Pham Kuang Khyng;
• Minister's Secretary Nguyễn Wang Ky;
• President of the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute (Vinatom), MPEI alumni Tran Chi Thanh;
• Second secretary of SRV Embassy on training Nguyen Thi Kim Thu;

MPEI trained a large number of highly qualified personnel for Vietnam:

• over 500 bachelors, masters and specialists,
• 120 Candidates of science and 9 Doctors of Science,
• over 150 Vietnamese specialists were trained at MPEI.

In 1954 the President of the Democratic republic of Vietnam Ho Chi Minh visited MPEI with the informal visit.

Now 85 students, Ph.D.- students and audience from Vietnam are trained at MPEI. It should be noted that in recent years there was a considerable increase in Vietnamese students. That was proved especially strongly in increase in number of Ph.D.- students from Vietnam – now there are 15 people.

Since 2017-2018 academic year MPEI and the International Institute of Vietnam National University have started the joint training of students in the "Computer and Information Sciences" area in English. This program provides coeducation of the Vietnamese students of bachelor degree according to the scheme 2+2 or 3+1.

There was planned the extension of joint programs between MPEI and VNU in several areas.

During the meeting with the Minister there were discussed various issues of interaction such as:

• correction of the training areas for the Vietnamese students at MPEI concerning plans for development of power industry in Vietnam;
• admission of the Vietnamese students from other Universities of Russia to MPEI in the corrected training areas;
• joint training of the Vietnamese Ph.D.-students;
• retraining and professional development of the Vietnamese alumni from the Russian and Soviet Universities at MPEI;
• development of joint scientific research and educational programs with the Vietnam National University.

The Vietnamese party told about their intention to create the National Research Center of Nuclear Energy, MPEI expressed their readiness to take part in the activity of this center.

The delegates discussed the main subjects concerning further work on creation of the Russian-Vietnamese Power Engineering Center of strategic partnership.

Results of the meeting allow to count on further enhancing cooperation between MPEI and Vietnam in various areas.​​​​​​​
