Anniversary of one of the MPEI partners - Technical University of Sofia (Bulgaria)

MPEI Rector, Dr. (Tech. Sc.), professor Rogalev Nikolay headed MPEI delegation to Bulgaria (25.10.2015 - 28.10.2015) by the invitation of Technical University of Sofia for participation in anniversary events for the 70 anniversary of TU Sofia and negotiations on realization a conference of International Association of Universities` International Offices (AMO) and realization of joint educational programs. The delegation included:

- Vice-Rector on International Relations Zamolodchikov V.;

- Head of Department of International Relations Tarasov A.

The visit of MPEI delegation within festive events is extremely important. Students from Bulgaria were ones of the first foreign students sent to MPEI in 1946. Representatives of Bulgaria (Stephane Vasilev and Kirill Kirkov) were the first MPEI foreign alumni. Subsequently, Stephane Vasilev became the Chairman of PRB Committee on atomic energy and MPEI Honorary Doctor. Besides, Dimitr Dimitrov was also MPEI Honorary Doctor who was the Minister of Education and Science of Bulgaria, Rector of Technical University of Sofia, the great scientist-electrician, whose works in the field of dynamics, research and design of electrical machines of alternating current are widely known for experts.

Many MPEI alumni held visible state and administrative positions, among them: Directors of the NPP "Kozloduy", Minister of the industry and power engineering, Minister of Education, Rector of TU Sofia. MPEI activities for preparation of highly qualified personnel for Bulgaria were noted by the national award: 1st degree award "National Republic of Bulgaria".

The contract between MPEI and TU Sofia was signed in 1964. In total there were trained 687 engineers, 171 PhD in Technical Sciences, 2 Doctors of Engineering Science, 212 experts passed training.

On 26.10.2015 MPEI delegation visited faculties and Departments of TU Sofia. During negotiations with the management of faculties and Departments there were reached preliminary agreements on the exchange of professors and students.

On 27.10.2015 there took place a welcome reception with Rector of TU Sofia and foreign delegations devoted to the 70 anniversary from the date of foundation of the University. Representatives of 14 Universities from 10 countries participated in the ceremony.

The reception of MPEI delegation took place at Rector of TU Sofia Georgi Michow. The Chief Secretary of TU Sofia and the President of IAU Valentin Dimitrov participated in the meeting. During the meeting there were discussed the issues of AMO Conference organization in June, 2016 on the basis of MPEI and MPEI branch in Smolensk. There was reached a preliminary agreement on the organization of the meeting of MPEI Bulgarian alumni devoted to the 70 anniversary of the training start on the basis of MPEI in May, 2016.

In the evening on 28.10.2015 there took place the ceremony devoted to TU Sofia anniversary. There was President of Bulgaria Rosen Plevneliev who is the alumnus of TU Sofia.
