MPEI holds master-class "Actual exploitation and maintenance issues of digital relay protection devices"

17 May, 2021, on the base of "NTI Competencies Center at MPEI", the Open all-Russian professional skills contest "Best specialist of Relay protection 2021" was held. In its framework, the master class on "Actual exploitation and maintenance issues of digital relay protection devices" was carried out.

The speakers were: Vladimir Karantaev, Head of NTI Competencies Center at MPEI, and Aidar Ententeev, Center engineer.

During the master class, the listeners discovered cybersecurity peculiarities for digital relay protection and automatics devices and considered a real example of defence realization of power object according to the MEC 61850 standard on the base of cyberphysical site of NTI Competencies Center. The listeners were shown the operation process of the relay protection and automated system of digital substation if a short circuit occur in the power system block modelled by the program-device real-time complex RTDS.

The cyberphysical site of NTI Competencies Center provided the medium to conduct the digital and cyberphysical modelling of complex electric power engineering systems, and its characteristics exceed the ones of laboratories and experimental sites available in Russia by the implementation of Power-Hardware-in-the-Loop technology.

The master class was attended by 13 persons from the following organizations: Bashkir Generation Company LLC, NLMK PJSC, Unipro PJSC, Noyabrskenergoneft LLC, Fergana MES Branch of Uzbekistan, Gazprom Transgaz Nizhny Novgorod LLC, ERG of Kazakhstan, Gazpromneft-Energoservice LLC, Volzhsky Pipe Plant Joint Stock Company, RETO Plant JSC.​​
