MPEI delegation took part in the events devoted to the 120 Anniversary of Xi'an Jiaotong University

MPEI delegation headed by Vice-Rector on scientific work V. Dragunov, including Head of Department of International Relations A. Tarasov, was sent to China since 05.04.2016 to 10.04.2016 for participation in the events devoted to the celebration of the 120 Anniversary of Xi'an Jiaotong University.

Within the Anniversary Xi'an Jiaotong University has held the whole complex of events: exhibition of world-class Universities; Conference devoted to the Anniversary; summit of Presidents of world-class Universities; meeting of Presidents and Rectors of Executive Committee of University Alliance of the New Silk Road (hereafter "Alliance"). 

On the first day of the events – on the 06.04.2016 - Head of MPEI Delegation Vice-Rector V. Dragunov was interviewed by the Chinese television. Also on the 06.04.2016 there took place a meeting with President of Xi'an Jiaotong University Wang Shuguo. During the meeting Head of MPEI delegation congratulated prof. Wang Shuguo on this significant date and he gave the congratulatory address signed by Rector MPEI.

On the 07.04.2016 there took place a large-scale exhibition of world-class Universities (World-Class Universities Expo). 80 Universities from different countries of the world have participated in the exhibition including University of Oxford, City University London etc. The Russian Universities have been presented by MPEI, Bauman MSTU and Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. The great interest has been shown to MPEI booth.

That day there took place the anniversary entertaining at the mayor of Xi'an Jiaotong University.

On the 08.04.2016 at the sports stadium of Xi'an Jiaotong University there took place the Ceremony of official opening of Anniversary events where over 16000 people have taken part. In presidium of this meeting there have been invited distinguished guests from the different countries of the world, representatives of the international academic community, including Vice-Rector MPEI V. Dragunov.

Summit for Presidents of World Class Universities where representatives of 80 Universities have taken part, and a set of various issues have been discussed, including missions of Universities and variety of cultures; opportunities and challenges for the higher education during the information era; mobility of talents in the global context took place. 

On the 09.04.2016 there took place The President's Summit for Executive Committee of Alliance. Representatives of 86 Universities from 26 countries of the world took part in the foundation of the Alliance in May, 2015. Then there was signed the Xi'an declaration where it has been proclaimed that the University Alliance is aimed at creation of the general platform for cooperation in the field of education, developments of dialogue of cultures and the people, and on the basis of the scientific belt of the Silk Road the Alliance will perform interaction between Universities in such areas as training, scientific research and cultural communication.

This year the meeting of Presidents and Rectors of Executive Committee was opened by President of Xi'an Jiaotong University prof. Wang Shuguo. In the agenda of the meeting there took place a report of the secretariat of Alliance on the done work in 2016. Then there took place the discussion of participants of executive committee. Following the results of the meeting there was adopted the charter of Alliance and the Xi'an agreement. The executive committee of Alliance has decided to hold the second meeting of Alliance Executive committee and a forum of Rectors and Presidents of Alliance in November, 2016 in Hong Kong, within celebration of the 80 Anniversary of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. During the meeting there was proclaimed the opening of the West Chinese Science and Technology Innovation Harbor and there was established the Silk Road Foundation.

Also there took place a visit to School of Energy & Power Engineering where there was a meeting with management and professors of the Institute. The parties have shown mutual interest in the implementation of scientific and educational projects, joint publications in the leading world scientific magazines.

During the anniversary events there took place a set of meetings with representatives of World University Community, including Rector of Technical University Ilmenau, Honorary Doctor of MPEI Peter Scharff who has noted the special need of the organization of events for celebration of the 50 anniversary of cooperation between MPEI and TU Ilmenau next year. 

The working group of representatives from MPEI, Bauman MSTU and Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University has discussed performing the meeting of Association of technical Universities of Russia and China in May, 2016 in Qingdao. 

There took place meetings with Vice-Rector and Director of the International Department of Polytechnical University of Hong Kong. This University offers the whole range of the international scholarship programs for students, Ph.D.-students and researchers and it is interested in development of close ties with the Russian Universities including MPEI. In the first decade of May there is planned a visit of delegation of this University to Moscow and St. Petersburg. MPEI has suggested the including of the meeting with representatives of MPEI in the visit schedule. In turn, the management of Polytechnical University of Hong Kong has invited MPEI to visit University within celebration of the 80 Anniversary and the second meeting of Executive Committee of Alliance and the Forum of Rectors and Presidents of Alliance in November, 2016 in Hong Kong. This contact is represented to be extremely interesting as it opens opportunities for realization of joint projects with the University taking extremely high positions in world ratings.
