MPEI Campus is rated best in green technologies usage

26 November, 2021, MPEI received a prestigious award “Green Light” from Schneider Electric company that is a world leader in providing digital solutions in the field of Electric Power and Automation.

MPEI was awarded the “Green Light” prize in the nomination “Clean footprint: best realization of strategy for reducing the carbon footprint” for the most energy efficient Сampus.

During the past few years MPEI has been modernizing the study facilities within the support of leading branch companies, taking into account all the contemporary demands of future specialists training for power engineering and adjacent fields. The University Campus, its scientific and educational centers and laboratories have been equipped with innovative outfit for training highly-qualified personnel for science-demanding and research activities, including tasks on sustainable development.

MPEI was represented by Nikolay Rogalev, its Rector and Olga Kondratyeva, Head of the Environmental Engineering and Labor Protection Department.

“It is a great honor for us to receive recognition in the field of reducing the carbon footprint through the modernization and development ofMoscow Power Engineering Institute campus. In recent years, the university has reorganized its campus, making it not just a comfortable study space, but a set of facilities fully provided with our own energy resources, configured within the framework of the most modern ergonomic and resource-saving technologies. It is gratifying that our project has received recognition along with major market players - the country's leading industrial companies.”

The Green Light award ceremony took place on November 26 at the Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO. The winners in each of the nominations presented were chosen in terms of their commitment to the principles of sustainable development by an expert jury, which included representatives among industry government departments, national research centers, financial organizations, as well as Russian business leaders.

IKEA, En + Group, Polymetal International Inc., Zarubezhneft JSC, Uralkali PJSC and others were nominated for the award as well.

The “Green Light” award is a project created by Schneider Electric and aimed at the promotion of ESG agenda, attracting the business attention to this field, development of the decarbonization programs and reducing the carbon capacity, as well as society conscience transformation to move to a responsible, “green” modus vivendi.

The main mission of the Award is to form the expert society and social conscience aimed at developing an innovative approach to achieve the climatic goals and a sustainable approach to everyday life.

The contestants were assessed by the ESG ranking that considers the impact of the key business decision-making process on the sustainability in ecology, society and economy.

The winners were chosen in the nominations that underline the basic aspects of sustainable development: green programs’ implementation results, participation in ESG rankings, energy efficiency decisions’ realization, decarbonization and carbon capacity reduction.​​​
