MPEI launches CIS Council of Young Scientists

13 October, 2022, MPEI hosted the first session of the CIS Council of Young Scientists in Electric Power Engineering. The event was a key one for the Russian Energy Week and was carried out in the framework of the Executive Committee of the CIS Electric Power Council having its 61st session.

The pilot session was conducted according to the Declaration of the IV Forum of CIS countries and gathered more than 200 young power engineers from CIS both in-person and remotely.

 

The meeting was opened by the MPEI Rector Nikolay Rogalev who underlined the importance of the goals set by the Council of Young Scientists and said:

“The initiative to create the Council of Young Scientists in Electric Power Engineering is dictated by the most important need of the power branch - the demand for the human resource potential. Thus, a new foundation for innovations in the energy sector of the CIS is being formed, aimed for the further growth of the members of the Council to ensure the reliability, safety, efficiency and greening of the activities of the profile companies of the Russian Federation and the CIS countries, and to provide management of them in the future!”

The Chairman of the Executive Committee of the CIS EPC Taras Kupchikov, in his welcoming speech, expressed support for the initiative as a tool for the fundamental international development of the branch, noting the importance of the voice of youth to make contribution to the electric power industry in the future.

 

The speakers of the meeting were Ekaterina Solntseva, Advisor to the State Institution “Science and Innovations” of the State Corporation “Rosatom”, Alexander Kormishin, Chairman of the BRICS Youth Energy Agency, Andrey Zhukov, Chairman of the Section on Problems of Reliability and Efficiency of Relay Protection and Automatic System Control in the UES of Russia, Deputy Director for Management of the UES Modes SO UES JSC, as well as Mikael Martirosyan, Director of the Schneider Electric-Tashir-NPUA Distinction Center.
The main topics of the meeting’s agenda were issues of energy security, science and diplomacy, the role of the contribution of young scientists in the formation of a targeted vision of the future and the global energy agenda, the historical, sectoral and international context, current challenges, mechanisms for interaction and existing BRICS formats for similar initiatives.

 

In person and online, the meeting was attended by students of MPEI, advanced universities of the CIS, leading specialists and Heads of industry companies in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Armenia and Belarus in the field of electric power. The meeting participants from the Russian side were representatives of PJSC FGC UES, LLC Inter RAO, PJSC Rosseti, JSC Mosoblenergo and other specialized enterprises. All participants of the meeting agreed that the organization of interaction between young people - future industry specialists of the CIS member states, as well as in the broader context of the BRICS, SCO, ASEAN countries, seems to be one of the key tasks to ensure the fruitful contribution of the youth to the formation of a sustainable and affordable energy future.

 

MPEI has been approved as a base organization of the member states of the CIS for training and retraining of personnel in the field of Electric Power Enigneering (Council of Heads of Governments of the CIS, October 30, 2015).
