MPEI expands cooperation with Mongolia

On October 18, 2023, during the visit of Alexander Tarasov, Vice-Rector on International Relations to Mongolia, a meeting was held with Davaakhuu Narangerel,  Head of the state owned asset registration and utilization division of the Government Agency for Policy Coordination on State Property of Mongolia. The meeting was attended by MPEI graduates: Bayar Bat-Erdene, Director of the Power Engineering Institute of the Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST), Bolor Erkhemzaya, Chief Engineer of the National Power Transmission Grid Company, Ichinkhorloo Luvsantseren, General Director of the Department of Fuel Policy Implementation and Coordination of the Mongolia Ministry of Energy, Jambaa Garel, Policy and Planning Department expert of the Mongolia Ministry of Energy.

The meeting participants discussed the issues of personnel training for the Mongolia’s energy sector. It was noted that currently there is a significant shortage of personnel. The Ministry expressed readiness to cooperate with the MPEI Center for Targeted Training being established on the basis of the Power Engineering Institute of MUST (hereinafter - the Center). An agreement was reached to send a group of specialists from the Ministry of Energy to MPEI to coordinate the necessary advanced training programs for employees.

The significant MPEI contribution to the development of the Mongolia’s energy sector, which recently celebrated its 100th anniversary, was noted. During the meeting with MPEI alumni it was decided to create electronic gallery of MPEI alumni who contributed to the Mongolia’s energy sector development.

 

A visit to the MUST took place as part of the business trip.

On October 23, 2023, as part of the delegation headed by Konstantin Mogilevsky, Deputy Minister of Science and Education, Alexander Tarasov, Vice-Rector on International Relations, visited the Mongolian State University of Science and Technology. The delegation visited the MUST laboratories (Relay Protection and Automation and Mechatronics). They will be used for the project of the MPEI Center for Targeted Training on the basis of the MUST Power Engineering Institute. The laboratories allow training high-class specialists who will be able to work on the most modern equipment. Taking into account the demands of employers, this Center will allow to carry out large-scale training of specialists for the energy industry of Mongolia using the potential of leading universities of Russia and Mongolia.

Konstantin Mogilevsky noted that the Center will significantly expand opportunities for training Mongolian specialists in Russia in technical areas and in this regard, considers it necessary to translate modern MPEI textbooks into Mongolian for use in the educational process.


The Center plans to send Mongolian professors and employees of the energy industry to MPEI to get acquainted with new teaching methods and develop joint training methods for future specialists.

The result of the internships will be: joint curricula; joint methodological manuals in Russian and Mongolian languages with sections including country specifics, creation of joint educational programs, development of necessary training programs for current employees, translation of modern MPEI textbooks into Mongolian language for the educational process.

Scientific cooperation is planned for the realization of forecasting and assessment of needs in competence of the energy sector of the future.

Both sides agreed on preparation a list of necessary specialists by areas and levels of training in the perspective up to 2030 by the Center together with the Ministry of Energy of Mongolia and companies implementing projects in the energy sector.
