As part of the international program Energy and Power Talent Advanced Training, I went to China for 11 days to Shanghai Energy University (SUEР). This program was held within 2024 International Workshop for Senior Personnel in Electric Power Sector From Belt and Road Initiative Partner Countries. The main topic of the session was “Smart Energy and Distributed Energy”.

It was my first experience participating in such an event abroad, and I was very curious to see how it would unfold. Upon arrival, I discovered that we had a packed schedule ahead of us, featuring lectures on microgrids and renewable energy sources, as well as visits to various energy facilities such as a wind farm, an underground power substation, and industry enterprises.

We found ourselves in the heart of the city, at the Cloud Carbon Neutrality Innovation Center, located within Huzhou—a smart city pilot project fully powered by microgeneration and renewable energy. Our itinerary included a visit to the Shanghai Electric Production Base, a heavy industry turbine manufacturing facility, as well as the JA Solar Company, where solar panels are manufactured. As part of the program, we attended lectures delivered by representatives of leading industry companies, focusing on various innovations currently being actively implemented in China. During the closing seminar, all participants gave presentations on the topic: "Opportunities and Challenges for Energy Transition Under the Dual Carbon Background."

The program brought together participants from various countries, including Australia, Vietnam, Thailand, Kenya, and others. This diverse group provided an excellent opportunity for exchanging knowledge and experiences on the topic through discussions, as well as sharing impressions of China and enjoying engaging conversations.

Beyond the educational component, we also had a rich cultural program. It featured a visit to one of China’s most beautiful cities, Hangzhou, where we enjoyed a boat ride on the picturesque West Lake (Xihu), explored the historic Lingyin Temple, and toured a scenic tea plantation where we were treated to authentic green tea.

Additionally, at our request, an excursion was organized to the breathtaking city of Suzhou, often referred to as the "Venice of China." We spent the entire day wandering through its magnificent gardens, taking in the stunning scenery.

To sum up, this trip was an incredible experience that I would gladly repeat. Engaging and highly informative lectures, visits to enterprises, new connections, a rich cultural program, and the opportunity to enjoy traditional Chinese cuisine – all of these elements made my journey truly unforgettable.

I am deeply grateful to the staff of the Directorate of International Relations and my PACS Department for their invaluable support in organizing my participation in this program.
