This
is what Master students Erdem Dogdanov, Jamilya Orudzheva, Philip Naraev say:
Between the 1st of October, 2019,
and the 30 of June, 2020 we were studying at WUST on a Double-Degree program.
During this year spent in Wroclaw, we received a lot of positive emotions: gained
new competences in our specialties, discovered a new country, lifted the
English knowledge to a higher level and got acquainted with people from
different countries.

The
city
Wroclaw is one of the largest cities in Poland. It has
a very rich history, was founded by Czehcs, belonged to Germany, and went to
Poland after WWII. All this gave a considerable imprint upon the architecture
of the city, as well as on its atmosphere. The city is cozy, not very high and
very green, it attracts everyone and makes you feel free. This is why the visit
to Wroclaw dispels all doubts that Poland is not exactly Europe.
Particularly, we didn’t believe much in this city and the country and were pleasantly
surprised.
But
let us proceed to the University.
University
The University is well-positioned,
most of the buildings are all at one place. All the edifices are of different
architecture, they harmonize and supplement each other, some even really remind
you of Hogwarts. At the Campus there is a high-tech library, a canteen and a
quay with volleyball courts and boat docks. Furthermore, Wrocławska
Politechnika has its own cable-car to ease the way at the Campus. Much is done
for the comfort and conveniences of students, and this is very joyful.<.

Ancient
building of the Campus
The study is carried out in English
and before the start of it you need to sign in at the students’ portal JSOS.
There you can find the schedule for semester, your results and messages from
teachers if needed. The way of teaching is alike the one at MPEI: lectures,
labs and seminars, but still, it is different. Lectures are given as
presentations that can be downloaded. It is comfortable to listen and to copy,
but if you hadn’t put pen to paper at all it would be tough to remember the
course for the exam basing only on presentations. The labs are easy to deal
with: the permits are necessary, but not always, and there is no defence, you
just give a report from yourself or from your group. At the seminars students
usually read their presentations and respond upon them. In general, if you
apply effort and desire, it will be easy to study. The essential thing is to do
everything on time, and the teachers are always willing to help.
Hostel and leisure time
The most expensive part of Polsih
life for a student is the lodging. Monthly payment is 10500 roubles with the
additional housing of 1500. But, frankly speaking, it is worth it. The hostel
differs from the Russian one. We were at the T-15 dormitory, it is a block
type, with 2 rooms at a block, 2 persons in a room. Every block has its toilet,
shower, sink, and antechamber with a kitchen table, fridge and plenty of
shelves. All the furniture provided is new and modern. Every floor has a
kitchen, and that is a place of meeting for all foreigners of the hostel. Here,
acquaintances are made, and your skills are raised, not only in cooking, but
also in languages. The culture of different countries is shared here, as well
as cuisine. For instance, we made friends with Italian students and exchanged
evenings of traditional Russian and Italian food.
In general, students’ leisure time
is well spent, there are many different hobby groups, people meet, play
different games or just hang out .

Modern
study building
It is worth speaking of the life in
Wroclaw. It is a well-developing city with rich infrastructure. The thing that
amazed us first was that on Sundays or holidays no one works here, so you need
to buy the food beforehand. That took some time to understand. We would like to
note that all the products that are sold in Moscow, are sold in Wroclaw, except
for pelmeni and condensed milk (but they could be found if needed). Overall, we
spent around 25 000 roubles per person per month, but this is on an individual
basis.

Travelling
If you like to travel, then it is
good for you to know that Wroclaw is very conveniently placed for it, even if
you don’t like to spend much. We have been to many interesting places: Karpacz
mountains, Adrspach rocks, amazing ancient castle Ksiaz located in an hour’s
drive from Wroclaw.
Summing
up
This year for us was very rich in
events and bright impressions. First, our study gave us a chance to learn about
new interesting subjects and domains and developed our competences and skills
as specialists. Second, a colossal experience of living in Europe, broadening
of horizon, and a mass of new impressions, let alone a load of acquaintances
from all over the world. The level of English was raised as well.
