BRICS Network University Scientific Seminar from the series “Foundations of Green Sustainable Energy”

28.01.2025

On January 22, 2025, the third scientific seminar of the “Foundations of Green Sustainable Energy” series took place, organized by the International Thematic Group on Energy of the BRICS Network University (BRICS NU). This event continued a series of seminars for undergraduate and graduate students from universities participating in the “Energy” track of BRICS NU.

The online seminar, held in English via Zoom, was hosted by the University of Rio de Janeiro. The discussion focused on the current state of Brazil's energy sector. Gabriel Costa, a Ph.D.-student from the University of Brazil, delivered the keynote presentation on “The Oil, Gas & Biofuels Sector in Brazil: Potential Connections Between BRICS Countries.”

Brazil’s energy sector has undergone significant changes in recent years, with new laws and regulations emerging annually. Ongoing discussions about future energy laws are shaping the country’s energy matrix. The ongoing energy transition presents a valuable opportunity for collaboration among BRICS countries, particularly by leveraging expertise in areas like solar panels and critical minerals in China, natural gas in Russia, fertilizers and platform chemicals in India, and biofuels in Brazil and South Africa.

The seminar also addressed international cooperation in technology, equipment, fuels, and materials exchange among BRICS countries. Participants discussed cooperation opportunities and highlighted the expected transformation of the global power engineering sector.
