Summary

In 2017, the Department of Theoretical Bases of Thermal Engineering named after Mikhail Vukalovich and the Department of Water and Fuel Technologies were united. The Department of Theoretical Foundations of Heat Engineering was founded in 1930. The Department of Water and Fuel Technology was founded in 1947.

The mission of the department is the comprehensive training of highly qualified personnel and advanced developments in the field of heat engineering, water technologies, fuels and oils.

Research areas

The main directions of the research work at the department:

Modern information technologies in thermal power engineering and heat engineering;

Non-traditional and renewable energy sources;

Numerical modeling of heat transfer and hydrodynamics in power equipment elements;

Heat pump installations and air conditioning systems;

Preparation of water energy carriers of thermal power plants and nuclear power plants;

Development and optimization of water-chemical regimes and systems for chemical control of the quality of the coolant at TPPs and NPPs;

Autonomous power supply of buildings, structures, objects.

Recent projects

Energy fuels and lubricants;

Membrane technologies in the processes of industrial and municipal water treatment and water purification.

Features

During the training, students receive basic and specialized knowledge, in practice they get acquainted with modern methods of calculation and design of heat exchange equipment, power plants, water treatment and chemical control systems, the features of their design and operation; with fuel preparation and combustion systems, fuel quality control, lubricants and dielectric fluids. Graduates of the department are successfully employed in leading energy companies, small-scale energy enterprises, design and scientific institutes.

The department actively uses information technologies in the framework of training courses. The department pays considerable attention to fundamental and applied research in the field of thermal and nuclear energy. The department is equipped with unique experimental facilities, modern research equipment, which allows simulating the processes of real energy facilities. Students and graduate students of the department take an active part in research work.
