Signing of Memorandum between MPEI and Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeev

On May 20, 2024 the delegation from Almaty University of Power Engineering and Communications named after Gumarbek Daukeev (AUPEC), Kazakhstan, headed by its Rector Gani Nygymetov visited MPEI.

The delegation consisted of representatives of the Board of Directors and Head of the International Cooperation Department Sabina Manapova.

On MPEI side, the meeting was attended by Rector Rogalev, MPEI Rector, Alexander Tarasov, Vice-Rector on International Relations, Sergey Belousov, Vice-Rector on Digital Transformation, Sergey Shirinsky, Head of External Relations Department, Elena Gulicheva, Director on International Relations, Andrey Lebedev, Head of the Department for Work with Foreign Customers of the Center of the National Technological Initiative “Technologies of Electric Power Transportation and Distributed Intelligent Energy Systems” (NTI), Boris Safronov, Head of the Personnel Training Department of the National Technological Initiative Center “Electricity Transportation Technologies and Distributed Intelligent Energy Systems”.

The guests were given a tour of the GOELRO Museum, Electric Power Systems​ Department (IEPE), Hydropower Engineering and Renewable Energy​ Department (HERE), Nuclear Power Plants​ Metals Department (NPP),  technology Department (IPMM), the National Technological Initiative Center “Electricity Transportation Technologies and Distributed Intelligent Energy Systems”, as well as the MPEI Power Machines Student Design Bureau.

Within the meeting a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between MPEI and AUPEC. The Memorandum is aimed at strengthening cooperation in the field of scientific research, joint events, educational programs and experience exchange between the two leading power engineering universities of Russia and Kazakhstan. It is planned to establish a working group on the issues of cooperation, including the setting up of dual degree programs with developing a model of MPEI branch on AUPEC basis.

AUPEC Rector, Gani Nygymetov noted: “The signing of this Memorandum opens new horizons for cooperation in power engineering field for our universities. This agreement will become a solid basis for joint scientific research, exchange of experience and knowledge, as well as creation of innovative projects. We are confident that our cooperation will make a significant contribution to the training of highly qualified specialists and the development of power engineering industry for the benefit of Russia and Kazakhstan. I express my deep gratitude to my colleagues from MPEI for their warm welcome and readiness to work together for the benefit of our students and future generations of specialists”.

Almaty University of Power Engineering and Communications named after Gumarbek Daukeev (AUPEC) is a leading technical university in Kazakhstan specializing in training specialists in the field of power engineering, telecommunications, information technologies and cyber security.
